The Joys of Fall

We received our last batch of chicks for 2020 this week. They all arrived safely on a brisk fall morning and were glad to find the warmth and comfort of our brooder waiting for them. It’s always a humbling marker of the passage of time, each batch is only here for 8-9 weeks, which sometimes feels like a long time, and yet goes by so quickly. For example, December still seems far away, and yet the batch I unloaded this week is destined to be our last processing day on December 1st!

In other news, our new coops are being put to the test these chilly mornings, but with their roll down sides, they have kept the tender young chicks warm and happy each morning we head out to do chores.

We had fun this week preparing for loading some cattle. The kids helped me “test” the coral and we all played cattle through the gates and chutes, which make great swings as it turns out. Lovett, we discovered makes an excellent cow and she decides which way to go down the alley:) Click the picture below for a video with some great sound!
